Retail stores are not your best option for a new Computer
When shopping for consumer electronics, including computers, you have lots of choices. However, specifically when shopping for computes, you would do best to avoid the big retail outlets like Best-Buy, Circuit City, and the Office supply stores.
The secrete these places don't want you to know, is that computer manufacturers produce two separate lines of computers, those they sell direct, and those sold through retail channels. There is very little profit margin on computers, so the retail sellers need something to make it worth their effort to sell them. The retail versions, while looking the same and having the same "specifications", are not equal. The retail models have to cut corners in order for these stores to make a profit. So, for example, while you might get 1GB of RAM, you'll get slower RAM on the retail box than you will from the computer purchased directly from the manufacturer. There are a large number of components that are 'skimped on' in the retail version and they all add up to a lesser quality computer than you can get direct.
What about support? Service, whether it be warantee or out-of-warantee is still profitable, probably more so for the retail store. Therefore, they are authorized by the manufacturer to perform most warantee regardless of where you made the purchase. In many cases, the manufacturer will contract with professional service companies, like Christian Computer Solutions, to perform their warantee work on-site (at your home or office!). If you want to assure this level of service, make sure to look at the 'upgraded' warantee when you make your purchase. Often times you can get on-site service for all repairs for a minimal $50.00 additional.
